The Nicholas Roerich and Latvia exhibition is now on show at the Riga Bourse until January 31. Visitors are welcomed to explore the famed painter's Latvian roots, along with his artistic, historic and activism heritage, LSM reports.

Fragile, colorful and inventive in terms of form and artistic fantasy - that's the Finnish contemporary glass exhibition Finnish Glass Art. 2005-2010 that has finally arrived to Rīga and is on display from November 7 to January 3 next year at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, LSM reports.

In November world-famous singers like Olga Pudova, Hiromi Omura, Dmytro Popov, Tansel Akzeybek and Asmik Grigorian will take the stage of the Latvian National Opera (now abbreviated LNOB), reported LSM's Latvian-language culture section.

The CUB gallery on Ausekļa st. 11 in Rīga has opened The Abridged Lion (Сокращённый лев), an exhibition by the famous Russian sculptor Alexei Blagovestnov that's dedicated to the great poet Joseph Brodsky. Original writings and drawings by Brodsky will also be on display, LSM reports.

On October 15 the Riga International Film Festival (IFF) will kick off, showing over 80 new movies from all over Europe in what is definitely Latvia's largest movie event of the year. The Short Riga selection of short films has been unveiled recently, and foreign guests are welcome to attend the succinctly titled section of the IFF from October 21 to October 24, LSM reports.

From October 7 to November 15, an exhibition of Latvian contemporary art, titled Lielāks miers, mazāks miers (A bigger peace, a smaller peace) will be open at the Latvian Railway museum by the National Library. The show of the newest works by contemporary artists will be held within the scope of the Tête-à-Tête 2015 arts program of the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, LSM reports.

LSM - Juris Kursietis' debut film Modris, co-produced by Latvia, Greece, and Germany, will compete for the Best Foreign Language Film Award nomination, the National Film Center's commission announced on Thursday, according to the LETA newswire.

A critically-acclaimed Russian documentary film festival will be reborn this year in Latvia after the Kremlin's crackdown on free speech made its future at home untenable, film industry publication The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday, citing report by LSM's Latvian-language service.

LSM - On September 11 - the 150th birthday of the famous Latvian poet Jānis Rainis - a virtual exhibition, titled Poet with the fate of a traveler and a wanderer will be opened in the Central library of the Russian city of Pskov, reported the Pskov Information Agency.

The 20th annual new theater festival Homo Novus will take place from September 4 to September 10 in Rīga, LSM reports. Foreign guests will be able to experience the festival too, as many of the events transcend linguistic barriers. It coincides with the White Night held in the evening of September 5th.
