Video NATO has added to its growing credentials as a producer of short documentary films with a 13-minute movie about the selection of recruits to join Latvia's special forces. Now available on YouTube, the film titled "The Brave Man Wins" (sadly, no women are included) gives a look at the grueling selection process to join the coveted elite unit.

Philippe HalsmanSignificant photographers of the 20th century Philippe Halsman was born in Riga on the 2nd of May 1906. He died in New York on the 25th of June 1979.
Kristine OpolaisOpera star Audience favourite and the darling of critics, opera star soprano Kristine Opolais was born in Latvia in 1979. She studied voice at the Latvian Academy of Music and with Margaret Honig in Amsterdam.

Mikhail BaryshnikovDancer, choreographer, and actor Mikhail Baryshnikov was born on January 27, 1948 in Riga. He has attended Riga Choreography School, the class of Nina Leontyeva and Juris Kaprālis. These teachers helped Mikhail lay the the foundation for his superlative ballet technique.

A total of 862.3 thousand visitors stayed at Latvian accommodation establishments over Q3 2016, which was 10.3% more than during the corresponding period of the previous year. Compared with Q3 2015, the number of nights spent by visitors has increased by 7.9%. The average duration of a visitor’s stay at an accommodation establishment was 1.9 nights.
