Mongolia to introduce visa-free travel for Latvian citizens

On the sideline of the official visit to Mongolia by Latvian President Andris Berzins, several intergovernmental agreements were signed between the two countries today, the Foreign Ministry informed.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics had an official meeting with Mongolian Foreign Minister Luvsanvandan Bold today, during which he informed that the Mongolian government has made a decision to unilaterally cancel visa requirement for inhabitants of Latvia and this decision will soon be implemented. Rinkevics expressed gratitude for this important and symbolic step that will definitely bring these two nations closer and also encourage tourism and strengthen economic cooperation.

"The visit of Latvian President Andris Berzins to Mongolia and the signing of several important agreements show the genuine interest of both states in expanding cooperation. The impetus of this visit must be used for continuation of this cooperation, especially when preparing for the signing of other agreements that are important for both states. Visa-free travel is a great present from Mongolia to inhabitants of Latvia. I am convinced that many inhabitants of Latvia will use the opportunity to explore this beautiful country and make business connections with Mongolia,'' Rinkevics said during the meeting.

The ministers also agreed that it is necessary to promote direct contacts between Latvian and Mongolian officials. The officials discussed the possibility to organize mutual visits of parliament members and ministers of both countries. Rinkevics and Bold discussed the cooperation of both countries within international organizations and agreed on closer contacts between the experts from both foreign ministries.
