''airBaltic'' resumes flights between Riga and Gothenburg

RIGA, April 14 - Latvian national airline ''airBaltic'' will re-launch flights between Riga and Gothenburg (Sweden) from today, the airline informed the business information portal ''Nozare.lv''.

''We are delighted that our modernized fleet can serve our customers better, and on routes where demand is higher. For the summer season, we will discontinue our Riga-Kaunas route, recording somewhat weaker demand; this makes aircraft available to reinstate the Riga-Gothenburg service for our customers travelling between the two cities and onwards to destinations such as Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Kiev, Moscow, Istanbul,'' the airline's CEO Martin Gauss said.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Ljunggren, managing director at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport, stated that the airport is happy at the re-launch of flights between Riga and Gothenburg, as it is important for the region to have convenient connections with Riga, as it makes other regions in the Baltics, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent State more accessible.

The service will operate four days a week - from Riga to Gothenburg on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, but from Gothenburg to Riga on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

"airBaltic" serves sixty destinations from its home base in Riga. The airline is a joint stock company that was established in 1995. The primary shareholder is Latvian state with 99.8 percent of stock. The "airBaltic" fleet consists of 25 planes - five "Boeing 737-500", eight "Boeing 737-300" and twelve "Bombardier Q400Next Gen".
