''airBaltic'' to begin flights to Prague

RIGA, Dec 5  - Come January 1, the Latvian national airline ''airBaltic'' will begin direct flights between Riga and the Czech capital Prague, the airline informed the business information portal ''Nozare.lv''.

''airBaltic'' will operate three weekly flights between Riga and Prague - on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The flights will be made on ''Bombardier Q400 Next Gen'' airplanes, and the approximate flight time will be two hours and ten minutes.

''As part of ''airBaltic ReShape'' business plan we have been concentrating on high-demand routes and added frequencies to 12 destinations in Europe and the CIS already for this winter. At the same time we have decreased flying on low-demand routes, which makes aircraft available for other new routes. In total, we are planning to open six new routes for the next summer, and announce our decision as soon as negotiations are finalized with our partners. We are delighted to offer Prague as our new destination. I would also like to remind that improvements to the network have given a positive contribution to our ''ReShape'' program. Because of ''ReShape’s'' success, ''airBaltic'' achieved a net profit of LVL 4.8 million in the third quarter of 2012,'' said the airline's CEO Martin Gauss.

''airBaltic'' currently serves 60 destinations from its home base in Riga, Latvia.

"airBaltic" was established in 1995, the state of Latvia is currently the key shareholder with a 99.8 percent stake.

In 2011, ''airBaltic'' operated with LVL 77 million in losses.
