Riga "Dinamo" takes 2-0 series lead in KHL Hope Cup final

 Latvian ice hockey club Riga ''Dinamo'' hosted the second game of its Kontinental Ice Hockey League (KHL) Hope Cup final series against Russian ice hockey club Khabarovsk ''Amur'', getting a 4:3 (0:2, 2:1, 2:0) win.

''Dinamo'' won the opening game of the series on Wednesday 2:0. With this win, Riga takes a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Juris Upitis scored two goals for the Latvia club, with Gints Meija and Andris Dzerins scoring a goal a piece. Meanwhile, Andrey Stepanov, Vjacheslav Litovchenko and Timofey Shishkanova scored three goals a piece for Khabarovsk.

The third game of the series will be played on Tuesday in Khabarovsk. If necessary, the fourth game will also be played in Khabarovsk.

As reported, Riga ''Dinamo'' defeated Russian ice hockey club Nizhny Novgorod ''Torpedo'' on aggregate in the qualification round of the Hope Cup, then defeated Ukrainian ice hockey club Donetsk ''Donbass'' three games to two in the quarterfinals and finally defeated Belarus ice hockey club Minsk ''Dinamo'' three games to zero to advance to the finals.

Riga ''Dinamo'' finished the KHL's regular season in 14th place in the Western Conference and did not qualify for the KHL playoffs. On the other hand, ''Amur'' finished in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

This is the first time in team history ''Dinamo'' did not qualify for the KHL playoffs.

The ten KHL teams that did not qualify for the playoffs have been competing in a special post-season tournament called the Hope Cup.
