''VEF Riga'' opens new ULEB Eurocup season with win

 QUAKENBRUCK (Germany), Nov 8 - Last night, Latvian basketball club ''VEF Riga'' kicked off the new ULEB Eurocup season with a 82:72 victory against German basketball club Artland ''Dragons''.
The highest scorer for the Latvian club was Dairis Bertans with 18 points, followed by Antanas Kavaliauskas with 16 points and Kristaps Janicenoks with 13 points.
On the other hand, Anthony King was the highest scorer for the ''Dragons'' with 16 points. Latvian point-guard Kristaps Valters added 12 points for the German club.
In the other Group C match yesterday evening, French basketball club Le Mans ''Sarthe Basket'' lost to Russian basketball club Lyubertsy ''Triumph'' 71:76.
''VEF Riga'' will play its next ULEB Eurocup match on November 13 at home against ''Sarthe Basket''.
As reported, this season's ULEB Eurocup is made up of 32 teams divided into eight groups of four.
Each team in each of the groups will play each other twice - once at home and once on the road. The top two teams in each of the groups will advance to the tournament's final 16.
''VEF Riga'' qualified for the tournament's final 16 last season.
