French Open champion Latvian Jelena Ostapenko slumped to a shock defeat in the first round of the Shenzhen Open on Tuesday only days after beating Serena Williams in the American’s comeback match.

Number two seed Ostapenko of Latvia lost to the big-serving Czech Krystina Pliskova 6-1, 6-4 in just an hour and 20 minutes.

Meanwhile another Latvian tennis player Anastasija Sevastova dropped just three games against doubles partner Sorana Cirstea on her way to the Brisbane International quarterfinals. Despite coming into the match trailing 0-2 in the pair’s head to head record, Sevastova, who lost six times to Romanians in 2017, turned the tables and offered a convincing performance leading to a comfortable 6-2 6-1 in just 57 minutes thanks to 14 winners to as many errors.
