Latvia registers EU's largest increase in exports

 LUXEMBOURG, Nov 16 - In the first eight months of 2012, Latvia's exports increased 14 percent from the respective period in 2011, the steepest increase across the European Union, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office "Eurostat".
The second largest increase, according to seasonally unadjusted data, was recorded in Greece - 11 percent, followed by Slovakia - 11 percent, as well as Portugal and Lithuania - by 10 percent in each.
Only one member state registered export decrease in the first eight months of the year - Luxembourg - four percent. Finland did not register any changes in its exports in the first eight months of 2012.
Estonia's exports grew five percent.
Meanwhile, Latvia's imports grew 15 percent in the first eight months, the second largest increase in the EU.
Malta recorded a 16 percent increase in its imports, followed by Latvia, and Bulgaria - by 13 percent.
The steepest import decreases were registered in Greece - 13 percent, Cyprus - eight percent, and Italy - six percent.
Lithuania's imports rose seven percent in the first eight months of 2012, Estonia's - eight percent.
