Cargo transportation cooperation between Latvia and Russia developing successfully

 RIGA, Dec 5 - Cooperation between Latvia and Russia in the area of cargo transportation is developing successfully, which is shown by an increase in cargo volume at Latvian ports, the transport ministers of Latvia and Russia admitted during a meeting in Moscow today.

During today's meeting between Latvian Transport Minister Aivis Ronis and Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov, the two sides also discussed cooperation in the area of transportation, including air transportation, as well improving border crossings for road transportation vehicles.

Ronis also invited the Russian transport minister to visit Latvia sometime in the future.

As reported, Ronis is in Moscow today to meet with Sokolov to discuss bilateral cooperation matters in transport.

The officials also discuss such matters as increasing train speed between Riga and Moscow, improving the capacity of railway and highway border crossing points, expanding legislative base and visa developments for flights to Russia.

Tomorrow, Ronis will attend the 6th international transportation forum ''Transport Rossii'' in Moscow.

During his visit to Russia, Ronis will be accompanied by Transport Ministry State Secretary Anrijs Matiss, Ronis' spokesman Aivis Freidenfelds and adviser Kaspars Ozolins.
