RIGA, Dec 4- Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) believes that Minister of Education and Science Roberts Kilis is to blame for the current delays in reforms to the higher education and science system.
After a meeting with members of the Higher Education Council today, Dombrovskis told reporters that he could not understand the minister's hesitation in continuing important processes, for instance, the establishment of a commission for the accreditation of higher education establishments - although the makeup of the commission has already been announced, Kilis has still not confirmed it.
Dombrovsis also notes that Kilis has made a number of controversial statements, but there have been no real actions to speak of. "There is no dialog, neither with the sector nor with the coalition," said Dombrovskis.
The premier said he was planning to order Kilis to immediately complete what he was doing, and assign a deadline to every project of the Education and Science Ministry. Replying a reporter who asked if Kilis' suitability could be considered, Dombrovskis said it would depend on how well Kilis would perform his tasks. "The question is about the results of his work, and whether there will be any practical activity," said the premier.
Dombrovskis also wished Kilis, who was lately afflicted by health problems, to get well soon and return to work.
