As the embattled Mayor of Riga, Nils Ušakovs, whose premises have been searched as part of a corruption scandal, faces a no-confidence vote, the National Alliance will hold a rally against Ušakovs on Saturday, at the same time, when his support rally is expected to be held.

Edvards Ratnieks the representative of the National Alliance’s Riga office informed that the party will hold a rally outside the Riga City Council on Saturday, February 9, between 12.00 and 15.00 for Riga residents to be able voice their opinion.

According to the National Alliance: «The current Mayor of Riga should step down to act in accordance of the principles of Western democracy».

At the same time, a rally in support of Ušakovs staying in office is planned to take with the declared goal of giving a platform to voice the views of the residents of Riga.

Reportedly, the opposition parties of the Riga City Council have collected the necessary number of signatures to request an emergency sitting, where they plan to raise the issue on removing Ušakovs from office.
