«Only by working together can we overcome global challenges. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a good platform for that,» said Latvian Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis during his meeting with OECD Secretary General Angel Gurría in Davos on Thursday, 25 January.

Gurría was informed by Kučinskis that questions detailed about Latvia in OECD Economic Outlook are in the very centre of the country’s political debates: «This includes fields like productivity, accessibility of healthcare services, and education reform,» said the prime minister.

He also revealed that in cooperation with OECD several evaluations of fields important to Latvia will be performed this year: an assessment of the country’s judicial system, evaluation of Latvia’s pension system, as well as a study in regards to the inclusion of residents in the labour market. Latvia also plans to join OECD’s Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIACC).

The two also discussed the upcoming OECD Ministers Conference. Kučinskis confirmed his intentions to participate in the conference.

«As we agreed in Riga, this will be an opportunity to present Latvia’s reform experience. We support the chosen topic of multilateralism. Only by working together can we resolve global challenges. OECD is a good platform for that,» said Kučinskis.

The Cabinet of Ministers reports that France will be the country presiding over OECD Ministers Meeting. New Zealand will be the second presiding country.
