In 2017, Latvia’s State Revenue Service (SRS) collected 90 million euros more in taxes than it had originally planned, said the institution’s director general Ilze Cīrule in an interview to Rīta Panorāma programme.

She said that 2017 was very successful in terms of tax collection. She added that tax revenue was 7.5% higher when compared with 2016.

Cīrule also added that some concerns were present about state social fees at the beginning of the year. Fortunately, the volume of collected labour force taxes has increased 10-20% when compared with 2016. This can be explained with wage rise, as well as the increase of businesses that have switched over to the white zone.

Commenting on data regarding tax debts, which exceeded EUR 1.254 billion in December 2017, Cīrule predicted that SRS may succeed in recovering 200-300 million euros.
