With Latvian Health Minister Anda Čakša and Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis not supporting the increase of capitation money to family doctors, their mass strike continues.

Čakša and Kučinskis met on Wednesday, July 12, with the head of the Association of Latvian Family Doctors, Sarmīte Veide, and failed to reach an agreement on halting the strike.

Kučinskis commented to reporters that the sides could not agree on raising capitation payment to family doctors, therefore the issue will be submitted to the Latvian Healthcare Strategic Council.

The sides have managed to agree on all other demands of the family doctors.

Since last Monday, July 3, more than 600 family doctors around Latvia have stopped providing state-funded healthcare services, pledging to continue the strike until the Association of Latvian Family Doctors reaches an agreement on the demands with the government.
