The open house at the newly reconstructed Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMA) for five days from December 12 proved to be an unexpected sensation, stoking up anticipation of the official re-opening of the gallery next spring, LSM reports.

LNMA Director Mara Lace told the LETa news agency people "came with sincere interest and a positive attitude."

Lace also commented on the estimated number of persons who passed through the building - 125,000: "We thought it might be crazy, but we had no clue it would be like this! We mobilized our entire staff, except for accountants.

The public will now have to wait for the next sensation - the Grand Opening for LNMA - May 4, 2016, after the renovation and remodeling of the interior is completed.
