LSM - Juris Kursietis' debut film Modris, co-produced by Latvia, Greece, and Germany, will compete for the Best Foreign Language Film Award nomination, the National Film Center's commission announced on Thursday, according to the LETA newswire.

Previously, the film was awarded as the Debut of the Year during the national film festival Lielais Kristaps in 2014.

Modris is based on a true story, which describes a conflict between a young man and his mother, and its dramatic consequences.

Modris received seven nominations and received the Audience Award from the Latvian news portal Delfi in the last year's national film festival. The movie has received prizes at several international festivals, along with two nominations for the Hellenic Film Academy Award.
