The U.S. Embassy in Riga anounces two concerts of the contemporary string quartet “Real Vocal String Quartet” (RVSQ) in Latvia. The concerts, “From Jazz to Rock,” will take place in Sigulda on December 8, at 18:00, at the concert hall Baltais Flīģelis (Šveices Str.19, Sigulda) and next week in Liepāja on December 11, at 18:00, at Emīla Melngaiļa concert hall (Ausekļa Str. 11/15, Liepaja). Tickets for concert in Sigulda can be bought at www.bilesuparadize.lv (price is LVL 3). The concert in Liepāja is free of charge.

The “Real Vocal String Quartet” is a contemporary string quartet whose members are also vocalists. Real Vocal String Quartet re-imagines the classical string quartet as an inclusive vehicle for innovative string playing. Each member of the quartet composes, arranges, and improvises, so the music is uniquely original. The group’s surprisingly broad repertoire embraces the diverse influences of all four players, from jazz and rock to West African music and bluegrass. This unique ensemble is the only combined vocal and string quartet performing on the chamber music scene, or any scene, today. Currently, RVSQ is completing their second CD at Fantasy Studios and with producer, Lee Townsend. This album will include original works as well as adventurous arrangements of music by Regina Spektor, David Byrne, Gilberto Gil, and traditional Cajun and Bluegrass tunes.

Apart from the concerts, the RVSQ will also give master classes for music school pupils and music professionals of different genres.
