RIGA, Mar 5 - At a gala event last night in the Opera House, the winners of the "Grand Music Award 2013" ("Liela muzikas balva 2013") were announced.

Named as Best New Artist was conductor Janis Liepins, who has admirably dealt with a formidable task - taking the reins of the award-winning choir "Kamer..." from Maris Sirmais.

The new ballet - “Karlsons lido...”, composed by Juris Karlsons and based on Astrid Lindgren's Karlsson books, received the award as Production of the Year, while Concert of the Year was the season opener for the National Symphony Orchestra September 27 in the Great Guild (Vladimir Fedoseyev, conductor, singer Egils Silins, soloist).

Pianist Reinis Zarins was singled out for Outstanding Performance - July 12, 2013, at the Cesis Arts Festival, Witold Lutoslawsky's Piano Concerto.

A "Grand Award" as last year's Best European Music Project went to the "Rings" (Richard Wagner) productions at the National Opera.

Diva and longtime educator and vocal coach, Regina Frinberga, was honored for Lifetime Achievement.
