Tax breaks at special economic zones extended until 2035

RIGA, March 14 - Saeima today passed amendments to several laws in the final reading that stipulate extending the period when investments made by special economic zones' companies are applied tax breaks until 2035.

The amendments concern the laws on the Liepaja Special Economic Zone and Rezekne Special Economic Zone, and the law on tax breaks at freeports and special economic zones.

These laws originally provided that the tax breaks would be abolished in 2017. Extending this period until 2035 is hoped to foster trade, manufacture, and transit of goods via Latvia, as well as bring more investments to Latvia and create more new jobs.
