Latvian ports register 11.3% increase in cargo turnover

 RIGA, Nov 15 - Cargo turnover at Latvian ports reached 63.4 million in the first ten months of 2012, 11.3 percent more than in the respective period of 2011, "Nozare.lv" was informed by the Latvian Port, Transit and Logistics Council.
In the first ten months of 2011, Latvian ports handled a total of 56.96 million tons of cargo.
The Freeport of Riga handled 30.3 million tons of cargo in January-October 2012, the Freeport of Ventspils - 25.95 million tons, the Port of Liepaja - 6.01 million tons.
The Port of Liepaja recorded the steepest increase in cargo turnover - 52.67 percent, followed by the Freeport of Ventspils - 10.1 percent, the Freeport of Riga - 7.8 percent.
Bulk cargo made up the largest part of the cargo turnover at Latvian ports in the first ten months of the year - 31.14 million tons; followed by liquid cargo - 21.36 million tons, and general cargo - 10.9 million tons.
