Latvia records EU's second highest increase in exports in first 11 months of 2012

LUXEMBOURG, Feb 15 - Latvia's exports in the first 11 months of 2012 increased 16 percent from the same period last year - the highest increase in the European Union, according to the EU statistical office "Eurostat" data.

According to seasonally unadjusted data, the highest increase in exports was in Greece - 19 percent, followed by Latvia, Lithuania - by 14 percent, and Slovakia - by 11 percent.
Only Luxembourg and Malta recorded reductions in their exports, of three percent and one percent respectively, whereas Romania's export volume remained unchanged.

Estonia's exports increased five percent.

On the other hand, Latvia's imports increased 14 percent in January-November 2012, which was also the highest increase across the EU.
Bulgaria and Great Britain had the second biggest increase in imports - 10 percent each, whereas Lithuania and Estonia registered nine percent and eight percent increases respectively.

Imports in Cyprus fell eight percent, and in Italy by six percent.
