Latvia's birth rate increases slightly in 2012

 RIGA, Jan 29 - Latvia's birth rate increased slightly last year, according to the Central Statistical Bureau's data.
A total of 19,520 babies were born in Latvia in 2012, compared to 18,825 births recorded in 2011.

Most births were registered in July - 1920. In January, 1560 babies were born in Latvia, in February - 1480, in March - 1470, in April - 1570, in May - 1800, in June - 1640, in July - 1920, in August - 1860, in September - 1520, in October - 1770, in November - 1550, and in December there were 1380 births.

However, population growth remained negative last year, as the number of deaths - 28,820 - exceeded the number of births.

At the beginning of this year, Latvia had a population of 2.028 million.
