Latvia's hydropower plants produce 28% more electricity in 2012

 RIGA, Jan 28 - Latvia's large and small hydropower plants put out a total of 3700 gigawatt/hours (GWh) of electricity in 2012, which is 28 percent more than in 2011 (2887 GWh), according to the Central Statistical Bureau's data.

Cogeneration plants produced a total of 2203 GWh of electricity in 2012 - a 30 percent decrease on 2011 (3138 GWh).

Wind farms' output totaled 108 GWh - 52 percent increase on 2011 (71 GWh).

According to the data on hydropower plants, electricity production reached the peak in April when a total of 744 GWh of electricity was produced, whereas the lowest electricity production amount of 97 GWh was recorded in September.

3247 GWh of electricity was exported last year, which is 17.5 percent more than in 2011, whereas the amount of imported electricity reached 4937 GWh - 23 percent more than in 2011.
