Grain processor Rīgas Dzirnavnieks to invest five million in modernization

Latvian grain processor AS Rīgas Dzirnavnieks has commenced a modernization project. The plan is to invest around EUR 5 million in the company’s development by 2021, BNN was informed by the company.

Procurement and contract-signing procedures for new equipment and construction projects are underway. Funding is also attracted from EU Agriculture Fund.

The company plans to commence production of packed pea and bean products and start production of pasta at the plant.

«It has always been important for us to implement investment goals rationally so that they fit our development plans and opportunities. This is why we have commenced several long-term projects in new product segments and to raise our competitiveness in the next several years. An unprecedented challenge for us is the planned processing of hard wheat for pasta production, as well as processing and packaging of peas, beans and rice products,» comments Anita Skudra, director and board member of Rīgas Dzirnavnieks.

Preparations have commenced to modernize oats and wheat factories, as well as grain reception and pre-processing. It has been decided to procure new equipment for the warehouse and laboratory. It is also planned to invest in safer food product packaging.

Baltic Mill, a part of which Rīgas Dzirnavnieks is, has announced plans to focus on development of local production plants in Baltics and invest approximately EUR 10 million to enhance their positions on the market.

This modernization plan is made possible thanks to investments from the EU Agriculture Fund’s in material assets.
