Latvia’s export growth was moderately rapid in the first six months of 2017

Compared with the same period of 2016, Latvia experienced a moderately rapid export growth in the first six months of 2017, according to data published by Eurostat on Thursday, 17 August.

Compared with last year, Latvia’s export volume has grown 11% in the first half-year of 2017.
 

The highest export increase was registered in Greece and Lithuania (+18% in both), Bulgaria (+16%), Croatia and Finland (+15% in both), Netherlands (+14%), Slovenia (+13%) and Portugal (+12%).
 

Export volumes in Estonia, Spain, Hungary and Romania have grown 10% in this period of time.
 

Export increases were smaller in France (+4%), Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium and Slovakia (+6% in all), as well as Denmark and Ireland (+7% in both). Another five EU member states experienced export growth of 8-9%.
 

At the same time, export volumes declined in Malta (-21%), Cyprus (-15%) and Luxembourg (-4%).
 

Import volumes in the first six months 2017 grew in 25 EU member states, declined in Malta (-13%) and the UK (-1%). Import volumes remained unchanged in Ireland.
 

The largest import increase in January-June was registered in Greece and Bulgaria (+19%), Lithuania (+17%), Slovenia (+15%), Latvia and Portugal (+14%) and Netherlands, Poland and Finland (+13%).
 

In other 16 member states, import increase ranged from 2% to 12%.
