Latgale Culinary Heritage Centre wins EU award

LSM - Latgale Culinary Heritage Centre has won the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) Tourism and Local Gastronomy competition in Latvia, LETA news agency reported.

Inese Sirava, acting director at the Tourism Development Agency, commented: "People have been working on the culinary heritage of Latgale for years now. Both local tourists, and especially foreigners, look for something authentic, characteristic of the given place only

Latgale offers tourists a great chance to acquaint themselves with delicatessen characteristic of the region, and I wish the region every success in continuing with these efforts."

It seems though that traditional cuisine isn't everything Latvia can offer. On Wednesday two Latvian restaurants - Valtera Restorāns and 3 Pavāru Restorāns - were recommended by the Huffington Post in an article titled '7 Foodie Restaurants in Eastern Europe'.

Latvian choir rescues BBC's War and Peace soundtrack

LSM - Latvian Television is about to start broadcasting the miniseries "War and Peace" by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), partially filmed in Latvia. Now news have surfaced about the series' soundtrack, which it turns out was rescued by the choir "Latvia" at the very last moment, reported Latvian Radio.
