Sadales tīkls' differentiated tariffs enter into force in LatviaThe rise of the price of electricity will be compensated for poor consumers. The new balanced tariff will be reduced for those who effectively consume electricity. Those who consume electricity inefficiently will experience an increase of prices. For example, for households with single connection, in which electricity is not consumed, tariffs will rise by a fixed monthly pay of EUR 1.5 (including VAT). With relatively low monthly electricity consumption – 85 kWh – the tariff will grow EUR 0.23. For monthly electricity consumption of 115 kWh, the tariff will reduce by EUR 0.21, and for electricity consumption of 300 kWh, the tariff will reduce by EUR 2.97. For households with three-phase connections, fixed monthly pay will depend on the capacity of the connection. For example, for 20A connections in which electricity is not consumed the fee will grow by a fixed monthly fee of EUR 4.84 (including VAT). For connections with relatively low electricity consumption – 100 kWh a month – the total tariff will grow by EUR 3.35. With consumption of 400 kWh, the end fee will reduce by EUR 1.13. With consumption of 600 kWh, the fee will reduce by EUR 4.1 a month. Sadales tīkls’ new tariff model provides for the introduction of a fixed subscription for all consumers in accordance with their consumption rate. Considering the socio-economic situation, the government has made the decision to compensate the increase of the tariff to less protected consumers. Protected consumers in Latvia are serviced by Elektrum by means of discounts. In accordance with the law, protected consumers, including families with three or more children, will be able to receive discounts in relation to Sadales tīkls’ new tariffs. Poor and indigent persons do not have to apply for support. The necessary information is provided to them by their municipal social service every month. Families with many children, 1st group invalids and families that care for invalids under the age of 18 have to fill in an application at www.elektrum.lv to apply for support. Sadales tīkls explains that support provides an opportunity to less protected users to pay a lower price for the first 100 kWh (for 1st group invalids and poor consumers) or 300 kWh (families with many children). Other components that form electricity tariffs will remain unchanged. Regardless of support recipient groups, electricity price will applied support for the first 100 or 300 kWh will be EUR 0.02542 (without VAT) starting from 1 August 2016. BNN/LETA
