Head of Latvia’s State Land Service submits resignation

Director General of the State Land Service Elita Baklane-Ansberga has submitted her resignation to Justice Minister Dzintars Rasnacs. Baklane-Ansberga explains her decision with personal reasons.

The service has prepared proposals for a successful realization of Kadastrs 2020 development programme that was presented at the ‘Cadastral development, possibilities and challenges’ conference in May 2016. SLS has prepared changes to the State Cadastre Law to present to Justice Ministry. In addition, the SLS has also developed new requirements for the creation of the Cadastre System’s development. It is planned to reform the existing Cadastre into a modern and easy-to-use cadastre, which would mark the transition to cadastre system intended for acquisition of the necessary data without involving owners of objects in question, as reported by SLS.

«I positively view our cooperation with the head of SLS and her contribution to the progression of new initiatives and successful realization of the industry’s policy. It enhances my confidence about the continuation of initiated development in spite of the change in leadership. This is why I respect the decision of the director general of SLS,» – comments Dzintars Rasnacs.

«It is a hard and responsible decision. I made this decision after SLS concluded work on all kinds of matters related to development. As a result of this work, SLS became a modern and transparently managed state institution. Information technologies and updated regulations have helped us reduce different bureaucratic obstacles in terms the field of information exchange with other institutions and companies. We have also expanded service accessibility in the electronic environment,» – notes Baklane-Ansberga.

It is expected that 18 August will be Baklane-Ansberga’s last workday. The justice minister will soon meet with Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis and State Chancellery’s Director Martins Krievins to discuss potential replacement candidates.
