Kuzis’ term is extended until 20 September 2018. Garbars’ and Abolins’ terms are extended until 20 September 2021, as confirmed by Interior Ministry. Interior Affairs Minister Rihards Kozlovskis expects the aforementioned leaders to complete their established objectives within the extended period of time provided to them. The State Police chief has a number of objectives that require immediate attention. This is why the term has been extended for two years. State Police has to form a special unit that will tackle the investigation of high-priority cases. Police also has to work on the formation of a unit to address matters of recovery of illegally acquired finances. There are also expectations for further improvements of Public Order Police to further enhance investigations of less criminally significant cases. Garbars has to perform actions involving specific measures to enhance state border control and defence. This includes sorting the infrastructure of the eastern border and performing measures detailed in the action plan ‘On protection and control of the state eastern border’. State Fire and Rescue Service under Abolins’ leadership has proven its professionalism in rescue work in tragic events Latvia has faced in recent years, including Zolitude tragedy. The service has to continue its professional growth and work on the realization of principles of Civil Protection and Catastrophe Management Law into practice, as noted by the ministry. mixnews.lv
