Unemployment level rises in Latvia

Latvia’s registered unemployment level was 9.2% at the end of February. Compared with the previous month, unemployment has grown by 0.1 percentage point.

At the beginning of February, there were 85,452 unemployed people registered with the State Employment Agency. At the end of February, there were 86,581 registered unemployed people. The number of registered unemployed people in the country has increased by 1,129 people over the course of the month, as reported by SEA.

The lowest unemployment level at the end of February was noted in Riga region – 5.7%. The highest, on the other hand, was noted in Latgale – 19.3%. Unemployment in Kurzeme was 11.5% at the end of February. That of Vidzeme was 10.0% and Zemgale – 9.7%.

Unemployment levels of Latvia’s largest towns at the end February was as follows: Riga – 5.3%, Jurmala – 6.2%, Valmiera – 6.7%, Jelgava – 8.0%, Ventspils – 8.2%, Jekabpils – 11.7%, Daugavpils – 11.9%, Liepaja – 12.1% and Rezekne – 17.4%.

4,374 of unemployed people registered with SEA found full-time jobs at the end of February.
