«Introduction of obligatory health insurance is work that the Cabinet of Ministers has agreed to do as well. The government plans to work on this matter on two levels – with ministers and experts. We wish the government all the best in their efforts. The Saeima will do its part and work on proposals submitted by deputies. We will also cooperate with patient organizations; learn their opinions on the most appropriate solutions. We have a common goal, of course. Work of the parliament and the government will be coordinated to make it more efficient. We will observe the process and make certain it does not result in a dead end,» – notes the head of Saeima Social and Employment Matters Committee Aija Barca. Romualds Razuks notes that one of the goals of the work group will be to analyse previous experience in health insurance and use certain elements from the model developed by the 11th Saeima. «A lot of effort and resources was put in the development of this system. There are areas for which there is no need to invent the bicycle over and over. For example, there is no need to re-define groups that would be provided with insurance at the expense of the state budget. We will also look for options to apply practices from neighbouring countries, where health insurance has been in force for many years,» – adds Razuks. BNN
