SRS workers may be tested using a lie detector

On Tuesday, 8 March, Inara Petersone, Director of the State Revenue Service, said during a meeting of the State Budget-Finance Committee that the service is considering testing workers using a lie detector.

Deputy Imants Paradnieks asked Petersone if SRS plans to introduce tests using a lie detector to check workers’ trustworthiness. In USA, he said, such tests are regularly carried out in 14 state institutions, including the US Finance Ministry’s Revenue Service.

Petersone, answering the question, said that this option had been discussed with Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola last week.

«The minister has informed me that she had discussed this option with the US ambassador in Latvia. The American ambassador has promised to provide any necessary technical assistance,» – said Petersone. The head of SRS added that she also has a meeting planned specifically to discuss this option.

Petersone added that SRS is unable to resolve this matter on its own. This is why the State Chancellery should become involved as well.

Paradnieks emphasized that using a lie detector provides an accurate reading of a worker’s trustworthiness in 87%-97% of cases.
