Baltic mayors to unveil memorial stone to Baltic Way in Tallinn

Today, Vilnius Mayor Arturas Zuokas, Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs and Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar will unveil a memorial stone dedicated to the Baltic Way in Tallinn on the occasion of Estonia's 22nd Restoration of Independence anniversary.

The memorial stone was created by Lithuanian sculptor Gitenis Umbrasas and Vilnius gave it to Tallinn as a present.

Another copy of the stone was gifted to Riga and the third one was unveiled in Vilnius on May 24.

The Baltic Way was a peaceful political demonstration that took place on August 23, 1989. Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning over 600 kilometers across the three Baltic states, then Soviet republics.
