German President and First Lady to arrive in Latvia for official visit

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Buedenbender will arrive in Latvia for an official visit for 23-24 August.

The State President’s Chancellery explains that the visit of the German president and first lady to Latvia will be carried out as part of the visit to Baltic States.

During the visit it is planned to discuss Germany’s contribution to the security of Baltic States, mutual economic relations between Latvia and Germany and cooperation in fields like media and vocational education.

Other matters to be discussed include cooperation between Europe and NATO, relations with Russia and the situation in Ukraine, as well as relations with Eastern Partnership Countries.

On Thursday, 27 April, Latvia’s Saeima supported the legislative draft regarding the provision of Latvian citizenship to world-famous artist Mikhail Baryshnikov for his contribution to Latvia’s culture, as BNN was informed by Saeima’s press-service.
