Authorities continue investigating possible election violations in Latvia

Security Police has received information about possible violations committed during the recent municipal elections. Authorities say most of those signals are unconfirmed. Nevertheless, inspections will continue.

Security Police received word of approximately 100 possible violations in relation to 3 June 2017 municipal elections. More than 40 signals were received on the day of elections.

Security Police also received several signals after elections. Their inspections continue. On the day of elections and one day prior SP had received information regarding possible violations of political promotion. Information about them was passed to other law enforcement institutions.

SP currently have two criminal processes in production.

Five searches have been performed and eight persons have been interrogated as part of those criminal processes, SP report.

SP also extend gratitude to all Latvian residents who reported possible illegal activities during municipal elections 2017.
