Latvian Justice Ministry plans to propose amendments that provide for reducing the state fee for registration real estate rights in the Land Book for large families from 2% to 0.5%, as noted in the ministry’s announcement.

Justice Ministry notes that the necessity for a home is one of the basic needs for people.

«Although there has been stable growth in Latvia’s national economy in the past several years, house purchase, especially for large families, remains an expensive decision,» ministry representatives say.

Justice Minister Dzintars Rasnacs says: «Strong and protected large families are the best possible investment in Latvia’s future. This is why the country should perform different support measures for large families. This specific measure is intended to make housing more affordable for them.»

Gaidis Berzins, head of Saeima’s Legal Affairs Committee, also says that the reduction of the planned state fee will help many large families make their decisions on the purchase of their first homes and make the process of property right registration easier.
