Cohesion Fund resources to be allocated to improve Riga airport’s infrastructure

To increase security of Riga International Airport and the energy efficiency of its infrastructure, as well as to reduce the impact of the airport’s function on the environment, co-funding of EUR 11.48 million will be allocated from the Cohesion Fund as part of the 2014-2020 planning period.

During a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday, 2 August, members of the government approved Cab. rules of Growth and Employment programme’s point 6.1.2. specific support goal ‘For the enhancement of security and compliance with environmental requirements of Riga International Airport’.

Actions planned as part of the specific support goal provide for investments into the development of the airport’s infrastructure to help reduce environmental impact. In addition, it is planned to carry out actions that will help improve the safety of the airport’s civil aviation and raise the energy efficiency of its infrastructure, as BNN was told by Transport Ministry.

In order to accomplish the specific support goal, funding will be allocated from the Cohesion Fund worth EUR 11.48 million.
