Riga International Airport buys four electronic baggage loaders

In efforts to reduce impact on the environment, Riga International Airport has procured four new electronic baggage loaders. They are meant to replace the diesel-power ones currently used at the airport.

Electronic baggage loaders carry baggage of passengers at Riga Airport from the terminal to the aircraft and back every day. The airport plans to procure three additional electronic loaders to replace the outdated models.

A single baggage loader carries more than 500 units of baggage every day. In total, the airport has 12 electronic baggage loaders.

It is worth mentioning that the procurement of electronic baggage loaders will help the airport to reduce CO2 emissions, which is a primary condition for the airport to climb the next level in environmental protection programme ‘Accreditation of carbon dioxide emissions of the airport’.

It is worth mentioning that Riga International Airport had received a certificate last year as part of the aforementioned programme on the completion of 1st level requirements to reduce CO2 emissions.

151 airports around the world are part of the programme meant to reduce CO2 emissions. 104 of those airports are located in Europe.

Riga International Airport is the largest transport hub in Baltic States. This airport provides airline connectivity with 69 destinations during the winter season. Passenger transport services are provided by 21 airlines.
