«Latvia is interested in trilateral cooperation with Belarus and China, especially in regards to attraction of cargoes from Great Stone industrial park for Latvian ports,» says Latvian Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis.

On Monday, 27 November, Kučinskis met with his Belarusian colleague Andrei Kobyakov in Budapest, Hungary. Their meeting was organized in Hungary as part of the ongoing 16+1 summit, as reported by the prime minister’s press-secretary Andrejs Vaivars.

Kučinskis notes that one of the priority cooperation directions with Belarus is transport and logistics. It was also noted during talks that development of border regions would benefit from cooperation between the newly-founded Latgale Special Economic Zone and Vitebsk Free Economic Zone.

Vaivars says that during the meeting Kučinskis informed the Belarusian prime minister with Latvia’s tax policy to be adopted next year, emphasizing that a 0% tax will be applied for reinvested profits.

Also the two officials discussed the matter regarding nuclear energy projects in Belarus. Speaking of Ostrovets NPP, Kučinskis said that it is important that NPP projects comply with all security requirements. Latvia invites Belarus to actively cooperate with interested sides, exchange information and be open about the progress of construction.
