Latvia experienced moderately rapid export growth among EU member states

When compared with the same period of last year, Latvia experienced a moderate export rise among European Union member states in the first four months of 2017, according to data published by Eurostat.

Export volumes in Latvia, like Spain, increased by 10% in the first four months of 2017. A larger increase was noted in Greece (+18%), Croatia (+17%), Finland and Lithuania (+15% in both), as well as Bulgaria, Netherlands and Portugal (+13% in both).
 

In Estonia – like Ireland, Hungary and Romania – exports in this period of time grew somewhat more than Latvia – by 9%.
 

At the same time, export growth in France, Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Slovakia and the UK ranged between 3% and 8%.
 

Export volumes when compared with January-April period of last year declined in Luxembourg, Malta and Cyprus – 4%, 17% and 28% respectively.
 

Import volumes this year, when compared with the same period last year, have grown in 26 EU member states and declined in Malta (-21%) and the UK (-1%).
 

The largest import increase in January-April period was noted in Cyprus (+34%), Greece (+22%), Bulgaria (+20%), Lithuania (+17%), Portugal (+14%), as well as Slovenia and Netherlands (+13% in both countries).
 

Import volumes in Estonia, like Spain and Finland, grew 12% in this period. Import volumes in Latvia, Croatia and Hungary grew 11%.
 

Import growth in the other 13 countries ranged between 2% to 10%.
