Most rapid growth among Latvian ports is noted in Liepaja

Latvian ports transshipped 29.253 million tonnes of cargoes in the first five months of 2017, which is a 6.7% increase when compared with the same period of last year, as reported by Ventspilnieks.lv.

Among the largest ports in Latvia, Ventspils and Liepaja continued increasing their cargo volumes. Riga, on the other hand, continues experiencing declines, according to data from the Transport Ministry.

«Nevertheless, cargo-wise Riga port remains in the lead after transshipping 14.88 million tonnes in the first five months of the year. Ventspils port follows next with 10.771 million tonnes. Liepaja port is third with 2.89 million tonnes,» as noted in the portal.

Among smaller ports, the largest cargo turnover increase is noted at Skulte port, which transshipped 361,900 tonnes (+34%) in the first five months. Mersrags port follows second with 191,000 tonnes (-9.5%) and Salacgriva port with 130,000 tonnes (+5.2%).

In total, Latvia’s small ports transshipped 711,300 tonnes of cargoes, which is 13.2% more than last year.
