Jurmala sees a 14% rise in tourist numbers so far this year

 RIGA, Nov 30 - From January to September this year, a total of 102,956 tourists visited the Latvian coastal resort city of Jurmala, which is by 14,907 or 14.47 percent more when compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).
77 percent of these tourists were foreigners, while 23 percent were Latvian residents.
The largest number of tourists visiting Jurmala in the first nine months of the year came from Russia - 34,815. The number of Latvian residents visiting the resort city reached 23,758.
7,925 visitors from Estonia visited Jurmala in the first nine months, 7,013 from Lithuania, 4,493 from Germany, 4,173 from Finland, 3,151 from Norway, 3,043 from Belarus, 2,179 from Sweden, 1,580 from Uzbekistan, 1,323 from Israel, 1,260 from Ukraine and 1,251 from Poland.
''The increase in the number of tourists to Jurmala is the result of hard and systematic work by the Jurmala City Council in improving city infrastructure and promoting Jurmala in Latvia and abroad,'' Jurmala Mayor Gatis Truksnis points out.
