''airBaltic'' to begin flights to Slovakia's Poprad later this year

For the upcoming winter season, Latvian national airline ''airBaltic'' will launch a new route between Riga and Poprad in Slovakia from December 13, the business information portal ''Nozare.lv'' was informed by the airline.

''As a Slovak national myself working for the Latvian airline, I was very thrilled to see all partners working together to connect the two airports for the benefit of people. People of Latvia, the Baltic region, Scandinavia, Russia and CIS will have an opportunity to access the beautiful region of High Tatras, a low cost alternative of the Alps. People from the region will benefit from the development of tourism and also convenient access to all places served by ''airBaltic'','' said Martin Sedlacky, one of the airline's board members.

''In the upcoming winter season the Latvian airline ''airBaltic'' will launch a new route between Riga and Poprad - Tatry Airport in Slovakia. The new one-weekly return flights will offer convenient connections between Riga and the High and Low Tatras from and to destinations in the Baltic region, Scandinavia and Russia during the three-year period,'' said Ivana Herkelova, the CEO of Poprad - Tatry Airport.

The service will operate one-weekly return flight on Saturdays.

"airBaltic" serves sixty destinations from its home base in Riga. The airline is a joint stock company that was established in 1995. The primary shareholder is Latvian state with 99.8 percent of stock. The "airBaltic" fleet consists of 25 planes - five "Boeing 737-500", eight "Boeing 737-300" and twelve "Bombardier Q400Next Gen".
