In 2017, 43% of Latvian residents went on trips outside of the country, according to the latest data from Latvia Tours Travel Index. In 26% of cases, residents went on a leisure trip, 7% – on a business trip, whereas 13% of respondents said they travelled outside the country for personal reasons.

According to survey results, residents aged 18 to 44 travelled outside the country more often than seniors aged 64 to 74.

Survey data also confirms the influence of income on decisions to travel outside of Latvia. As income levels increase, so does the proportion of residents who have travelled outside of Latvia in the past year. Among residents with low income (EUR 199 and less per family member), 23% have travelled outside of Latvia in the last twelve months. Among residents with high income (EUR 500 or more per family member), 65% have travelled outside the country. The Travel Index shows this trend has remained since 2015.

«Residents now more actively plan their leisure or go on business trips to foreign countries. This is proven y the Travel Index and the latest Latvia Tours financial results, which demonstrate considerable increase in the tourism segment, which had reached EUR 16.6 million last year. We will continue working on expanding our range of products and developing the corporate client sector,» says Latvia Tours Director Ieva Keiša.

The travel index also shows that women go on trips abroad more often than men: 29% of women and 24% of men have gone on trips outside the country in the last twelve months. Men, on the other hand, go on business trips to other countries more often than women (10% of men and 5% of women).

Data also shows that as residents’ age increases, the proportion of residents who travel outside of the country reduces.
