Latvian paralympian Edgars Bergs won bronze in men’s shot put competition in Rio Paralympic Games, bringing his country the third medal in this year’s competition.

Bergs’ best result was 14.55 m in F35 men’s group.

Fu Xinhan from China became champion. His best result was 15.19 m. Urra Hernan Emanuel from Argentine won silver with a result of 14.91 m.

Bergs secured third place with his third throw, because his first two were not better than 14 m. His three remaining attempts did not help improve his overall result.

Paralympic Games in Rio brought Bergs his fourth medal in his career. Twelve year ago, Bergs won silver in shot put and bronze discus throwing disciplines in Athens. In 2008, he won another silver medal in Beijing.

Last year, in Doha Bergs became the world’s vice-champion in shot put.

Rihards Snikus and his horse ‘King of the Dance’ started at equestrian event on Monday. During qualifications, Snikus took ninth place. The equestrian competition is set to begin on Thursday.

As previously reported, Aigars Apinis won gold in discus throw discipline. Diana Dadzite, who became the best in javelin throw discipline, managed to improve the world record in her medical group.

The Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will last until 18 September.
