Latvian ice hockey club Riga ''Dinamo'' kicked off the Kontinental Ice Hockey League (KHL) Hope Cup finals with a 2:0 (1:0, 1:0, 0:0) win over Russian ice hockey club Khabarovsk ''Amur''.

Miks Indrasis and Jamie Johnson scored the goals for the Latvian club.

The second game of the best-of-five series will be played this evening at ''Arena Riga''. The match will kick off at 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on TV6.

The third game of the series will be played on Tuesday in Khabarovsk. If necessary, the fourth game will also be played in Khabarovsk.

As reported, Riga ''Dinamo'' defeated Russian ice hockey club Nizhny Novgorod ''Torpedo'' on aggregate in the qualification round of the Hope Cup, then defeated Ukrainian ice hockey club Donetsk ''Donbass'' three games to two in the quarterfinals and finally defeated Belarus ice hockey club Minsk ''Dynamo'' three games to zero to advance to the finals.

LETA also reported, Riga ''Dinamo'' finished the KHL's regular season in 14th place in the Western Conference and did not qualify for the KHL playoffs. On the other hand, ''Amur'' finished in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

This is the first time in team history ''Dinamo'' did not qualify for the KHL playoffs.

The ten KHL teams that did not qualify for the playoffs have been competing in a special post-season tournament called the Hope Cup.
