Nolan names Olympic qualification roster; Ozolins captain

 RIGA, Feb 7 - The head coach of the Latvian national men's ice hockey team Ted Nolan has announced the final roster for the Olympic qualification tournament.

The Latvian squad will be made up of seven defensemen, 13 forwards and three goaltenders.

Defensemen Maris Jass and Oskars Cibulskis, as well as forward Andris Dzerins were the final players cut from the roster yesterday.

NHL players Kaspars Daugavins (Ottawa ''Senators'') and Zemgus Girgensons (Buffalo ''Sabres'') will not participate in the qualification tournament, while Riga ''Dinamo'' forward Raitis Ivanans and defenseman Guntis Galvins have been left off the candidate list.

Furthermore, defenseman Sandis Ozolins and forward Aleksandrs Nizivijs have agreed to come out of retirement from the national team for the tournament.
Ozolins will captain the Latvian team at the qualification tournament.

The roster of the Latvian hockey team participating in the Sochi Olympic qualification tournament is as follows: goaltenders - Edgars Masalskis (Khanty-Mansiysk "Yugra", KHL), Maris Jucers (Riga "Dinamo"), Ervins Mustukovs (Mora, Sweden).

Defensemen - Georgijs Pujacs (Omsk "Avangard", KHL), Oskars Bartulis (Donetsk "Donbass", KHL), Arturs Kulda (Novosibirsk "Sibir", KHL), Krisjanis Redlihs, Arvids Rekis, Kristaps Sotnieks (all - Riga "Dinamo"), Sandis Ozolins (Mytischi "Atlant", KHL).

Forwards - Mikelis Redlihs (Yaroslavl "Lokomotiv", KHL), Janis Sprukts (Moscow CSKA, KHL), Lauris Darzins (Kazan "Ak Bars", KHL), Martins Cipulis, Aleksandrs Nizivijs (both - Prague "Lev", KHL), Roberts Jekimovs (Lappeenranta "SaiPa", Finland), Ronalds Kenins (Zurich "ZSC Lions", Switzerland), Armands Berzins (Kiev "Kompanion", Ukraine), Juris Stals ("Poprad", Czech Republic), Martins Karsums, Vitalijs Pavlovs, Miks Indrasis, Gints Meija (all - Riga "Dinamo").

As reported, this evening, the Latvian national men's ice hockey team will kick off the 2014 Sochi Olympic qualification tournament against Great Britain.

The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be played at ''Arena Riga''. It will be broadcast live on LTV7.

Also today, Kazakhstan will play France in the early game, which will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Latvia will play its next qualifier on Friday against Kazakhstan, and its final qualifier on Sunday against France.

Only the winner of the four-team qualification tournament will earn a ticket to the 2014 Winter Olympics.
