Gulbis gives Latvia 2-0 lead over Tunisia at Davis Cup

 TUNIS, Feb 1 - Today, Latvia's top ranked tennis player Ernests Gulbis defeated Tunisia's Slim Hamza in the day's second singles match to give Latvia a 2-0 lead in their Davis Cup Europe/Africa Group II match-up.

At the moment, Gulbis is ranked 136th in the ATP singles rankings, while Hamza is unranked.

In today's earlier singles match, Latvia's Andis Juska defeated Tunisia's Mohamed Haythem Abidi 7:6, 6:3, 6:0

On Saturday, the doubles match-up will be played, while on Sunday the final two singles matches will be played.

At the moment, Latvia is ranked 45th in the Davis Cup rankings, while Tunisia is ranked 78th.

The winner of the Latvia/Tunisia match-up will play the winner of the Belarus/Monaco match-up in the second-round of the Davis Cup's Europe/Africa Group II.

In order for Latvia to return to the Davis Cup's Europe/Africa Group I, it must qualify for the finals of Europe/Africa Group II.

As reported, Latvia lost to Ukraine last year in the decisive Davis Cup match-up to earn promotion to Europe/Africa Group I.
