Verpakovskis returns to Greek football club ''Ergotelis''

 HEREKLION, Jan 31 - Veteran Latvian national team forward Maris Verpakovskis has officially signed with Greek football club Hereklion ''Ergotelis'', which currently plays in the Greek second division.

Verpakovskis has signed a contract with the club until June 30.

The 33-year-old Latvian forward played for ''Ergotelis'' in 2009 and 2010.

''I am happy to return to ''Ergotelis''. I have good memories from my two seasons here,'' Verpakovskis said after signing his contract. ''My goal is to help the club return to the Greek top division.''

As reported, Verpakovskis played for Azerbaijan football club ''Baku'' last season.

Verpakovskis has played for such clubs as Kiev ''Dynamo'', Split ''Hajduk'', as well as Spanish clubs ''Celta'' and ''Getafe''.

''Ergotelis'' was relegated from the Geek top division last season, and is currently in second place in the second division with 34 points from 17 matches.

Verpakovskis has played in 95 matches for the Latvian national football team, scoring 29 goals. He is the top international goal scorer in Latvia's history.
